How to create and manage WhatsApp message templates

Quick start

  1. All business initiated conversations must use a pre-approved WhatsApp template
  2. Templates are created within the Meta portal and include support for multi-media, catalogues, action buttons, text formatting, custom parameters etc.
  3. Messente currently supports all Meta supported template features except Flows

Creating templates

Navigate to the WhatsApp Manager and choose Manage templates and then Create Template.

Choose a template type

Type Use for
Marketing
Promotions or announcements to increase awareness and engagement e.g. Welcome messages, promotions, offers, coupons, newsletters, announcements
Utility Messages about an existing order or account e.g. Order confirmations, account update, receipts, appointment reminders, billing
Authentication Codes to verify a transaction or login e.g. One-time password, account recovery code, account verification, integrity challenges
  • The Flows sub-type is not yet supported
  • Meta pricing varies depending on the type chosen, the Messente service fee is always the same
  • You can create up to 6,000 templates

Design your template

Templates can include a number of features

Feature Options & limitations
Header - Optional Text (60 characters) / image / video / document / location
Body 1024 characters including Rich text formatting (bold, italics, strike-through, monospace), emojis and variable parameters
Footer - Optional Text (60 characters)
Buttons - Optional Action: Call phone number (20 characters), copy offer code (15 characters), visit URL (2000 characters)
Button text (25 characters)

Text (other than variables) is set in the templates but images, videos, documents, locations are defined in your API call however you should submit a sample of the sort of media you intend to send.
