  2. WhatsApp Business Messages (Early Access)

Why use WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is the most dominant global alternative messaging platform. We wouldn't recommend it for every scenario but here are some examples of where we think it's a great fit.

1. Increase conversions

Just as our customers have found with Viber, the combination of a preferred platform with much greater consumer trust together with many more options to make your content more engaging can lead to a significant increase in conversion!

2. Respond to customer preference

In many markets WhatsApp is now the preffered messaging app amongst consumers and so you can now respond to that preference.

3. Reduce costs

For long messages everywhere

Over a 1k characters per message as a single price vs paying for 2, 3 or even 4 SMS makes WhatsApp often much cheaper if you are sending lots of multipart SMS.

Here's an example for a customer in Finland showing how if they switch to using WhatsApp for the multipart messages and continue with SMS for the single parts they can save €10k/month!

Vs SMS (in some markets)

In most markets the price of an SMS is less than a WhatsApp but in Canada, India and many parts of Africa, WhatsApp is actually the cheaper option.

4. Faster access to new markets

Register once, send anywhere. If you're looking to enter a new market with long registration requirements for SMS then WhatsApp can be a much faster way to get started. Good examples are Vietnam, UAE, Singapore, Philippines all of which have a WhatsApp penetration rate around 80%

5. Avoid local SMS restrictions

A good example of this is Malaysia where they are banning the usage of URLs in all SMS starting from Sept 1 2024. WhatsApp has no such restriction

6. Email replacement

With over 1k characters per message, WhatsApp could replace some long form customer communications traditionally done via email to avoid spam filters and overfilled inboxes and increase conversion
